Quantity Surveyor

We are looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to complement our existing team.   The successful candidate will have a proven track record within a similar role and be friendly and professional in their approach with;-

With the capability to undertake management of a variety of projects simultaneously and manage all costs relating to each from initial calculation to final figures whilst enhancing value and achieving high standard and quality, an ability to multi-task is essential.

  • Relevant degree or professional qualifications / experience in surveying, groundworks, construction, structural and civil engineering would be advantageous
  • Be commercially aware and able to effectively undertake costs analysis for works undertaken on specific projects
  • Carry out take offs for material procurement
  • Analyse outcomes and prepare detailed progress reports
  • Must be computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office software including word, excel and use of emails
  • Excellent communication skills are essential as liaison with Clients is routine
  • Work well within a team and be flexible in your approach
  • Be able to prepare monthly valuations for submission including printing/managing drawings and keeping detailed records
  • Procure materials and effectively work within budgets
  • Able to co-ordinate own workload liaising with Contracts Manager and colleagues as necessary on a daily basis

You will be joining a friendly but hard-working and dedicated team in a relaxed office environment based at our offices on the border of Poole/Bournemouth with sites scattered across the local and surrounding areas.


We are looking to recruit a suitable candidate in this position to complement our existing team.  Whilst a background in civils is preferred it is not essential, however, a good construction material product knowledge is required and the post would suit someone from a builders merchants background looking for a new challenge.

This office based post offers the successful candidate a varied role and involvement in a variety of duties.  As the main contact between Contracts Managers, our suppliers and site operatives, on a daily basis you would be responsible for ordering materials, arranging plant and machine moves etc on multiple sites simultaneously, as well as a variety of other duties in this busy position:-

  • Assessing and monitoring reliability of suppliers and building/maintaining effective working relationships
  • Negotiating and agreeing most favourable terms possible with suppliers and liaising with finance team to ensure accounts are operated efficiently
  • Securing competitive prices for materials, plant and equipment etc as required on site
  • Identifying potential suppliers and new products
  • Arranging plant/machinery moves as required
  • Procurement of materials and plant for site
  • Agreeing delivery times and monitoring as necessary
  • Detailed record keeping and maintaining well organised working practices
  • Liaising closely between suppliers, Contracts Managers and site operatives in every aspect of the business
  • Arranging repairs/servicing requirements for our fleet of vehicles and MEC Groundworks plant/equipment on site – liaising with Site Operatives/Contracts Managers/Service Providers as required
  • Dealing effectively with challenges arising with suppliers and the flow of materials
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements for both materials and services
  • Providing information to our Estimator as required at tendering stage to ensure accurate project costs
  • Computer literate and competent in use of Microsoft Office software, emails and Dropbox
  • Be commercially aware and work effectively within budgets
